Our mission team to the John Wesley UMC in Port Norris, NJ was able to complete the shed project this week.  Unfortunately the excessive heat and humidity caused them to stop working on windows by Wednesday afternoon.  They will continue the project August 1-3 (Monday-Wednesday).  If you are able to help see Russ Adkisson.

The office will be closed July 28-August 2.  The pastor will be in from time to time after his cabin trip (Wednesday-Friday), so leave a message at the beep!

This past Tuesday Bill Downer Jr., son of Marguerite and Bill Downer Sr., went home to be with the Lord.  He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  He had served four tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Our prayers are with Bill and Marguerite at this time of devastating loss.  (Billy was their only child.)

A special meeting of session was held Tuesday, July 19, to discuss our fall schedule.  Areas of discussion were as follows:

To encourage families to attend worship before moving on to children’s sports activities and/or other family commitments it was decided to begin our Sunday schedule 30 minutes earlier. Breakfast will be served at 8:15, Sunday School and early worship will be at 9:00, and second service will begin at 10:30 with refreshments served between services in Madden Hall.  Any future blended services will be held at 9:00 a.m. only.

An Agape Brunch will be held once a month (dates to be announced) following the 9:00 a.m. service.  A continental type breakfast will be served in place of a hot breakfast on those days, and the second service will begin at 10:45.  Our hope is that more of the congregation will be able and available to take part in this time of fellowship.

The Worship Committee will begin advertising for the position of Director of Music Ministry through the Presbytery Office, the American Guild of Organists, music departments of local colleges, and various known contacts.  If you have a potential candidate to suggest for the position please call Karen Muldoon, chair, at 926-8440.

“What do you want to be when…” - Read Romans 8:22-23

Growing up ain’t easy. Seems like we spend most of our childhoods wishing we could be adults, and then most of our adult years wishing we could be kids again. Something in us is always wishing to be and have what we can’t. I guess that’s part of the reason we’re never really grown up, though, isn’t it? We are always seeking to move, to change, to become something new.

And you know what? I think that makes God smile. God is a creative force. God loves things that are moving, changing, being made new. In fact, God is constantly moving in people, changing up the game, and making all things new. Sometimes it’s not an easy process. Sometimes it hurts pretty bad. But at the end of the day, we are constantly being remade into newer and more glorious creatures. It’s never too late to move in a new direction or make major changes. And that’s pretty great.
