Our Leesburg mission team will be commissioned during worship on Sunday.  Monday the team begins working on several projects at the Leesburg United Methodist Church.  We thank God for people’s willingness to help in this suffering area of New Jersey.

Pastor will be speaking from Luke 10:38-42.

Please pray for our volunteers as they work and travel to assist this church in Leesburg and some of the residents of that area. We are so pleased this year to have some of our teens be a part of this local mission.

There will be a picnic at the manse following worship on Sunday for all Sunday School and youth group kids and their families.  The water slide is up, and the food is free.  Come, stay as long as you want, and enjoy this great mid-summer event.

An all church picnic will be held at the manse next Sunday.  Please sign up in the vestibule or call/email the office by Friday.

Vacation Bible School is just two weeks away.  Please register now if you haven’t.  Registration forms are available from Priscilla, the church office and our website.  Donations of individual snacks and juice packs are needed for the week.  Please leave these in the box provided in the vestibule.  Thanks!

This year our Christian Education Committee is offering VBS scholarships.  If you would like to sponsor a child from our church ($10/age 4 through 5th grade or $30/6th through 8th grade) please contact Joe Marshall at 645-7061.  Checks are to be made payable to the Presbyterian Church at Absecon with “VBS Scholarship” in the memo line.

Families wishing to apply for scholarships should contact Joe as well.

There are some stackable chairs in the upstairs hallway available to anyone who can use them.  They would need to be reupholstered.

Let the Whole World Hear

Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962), the world-famous violinist, earned a fortune with his concerts and compositions, but he generously gave most of it away. So, when he discovered an exquisite violin on one of his trips, he lacked the money to buy it.

Later, having raised enough money to meet the asking price, he returned to the seller, hoping to purchase that beautiful instrument. But to his great dismay it had been sold to a collector. Kreisler made his way to the new owner’s home and offered to buy the violin. The collector said it had become his prized possession and he would not sell it.

Disappointed, Kreisler was about to leave when he had an idea. “Could I play the instrument once more before it is consigned to silence?” he asked. Permission was granted, and the great virtuoso filled the room with such heart-moving music that the collector’s emotions were deeply stirred. “I have no right to keep that to myself,” he exclaimed. “It’s yours, Mr. Kreisler. Take it into the world, and let people hear it.”

To sinners saved by grace, the gospel is like the rapturous harmonies of heaven. We have no right to keep it to ourselves. Jesus tells us to take it into our world and let people hear it.
