This Sunday there will be a Minute for Mission on Haiti disaster relief.  Please use the special envelopes in your pew racks to donate to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.  The Mission Committee of West Jersey Presbytery has designated a gift from the International portion of the Cents-Ability offering to this effort as well.  PDA has already sent funds from One Great Hour of Sharing donations and is working in cooperation with our ecumenical partners on the ground to provide emergency food, water, shelter and medical supplies.  100% of your donations will go for relief as all administrative costs are covered under your Per Capita.

Looking for God – Read Jeremiah 31:10, 13

Because I'm a doctor, I had the privilege of leading a medical relief team to Kashmir where an earthquake had caused death and destruction. When I saw the devastation all around and the impact it had on the minds of people, I wondered how God would use this situation. The team went to different villages talking to people, consoling them, and sharing the good news of Christ whenever the opportunity arose. Gradually, as the team worked in the affected villages and spoke to the disheartened people, I began to see how God was at work.

The disaster had opened doors for Christian organizations to carry out relief work in those areas and to share God's love with the victims. Because of the devastation, the people realized that there was no security in possessions. Through the calamity, their hearts had been prepared to receive the gospel message in simple faith.

Jeremiah prophesied the forthcoming destruction of Jerusalem and exile to Babylon. Restoration and renewal would come after the devastation. God works in different situations and circumstances in ways we may never understand. Jeremiah saw something positive in the midst of the destruction and judgment of Jerusalem. He saw God's great plan of making new covenant with the people, Israel.
