Come with joy as a child of God forgiven, loved and free.

This Sunday Rev. Richard Ollinger, President and CEO of Cornerstone Christian Academy in Philadelphia, will be our guest speaker.  He will be preaching from Proverbs 15:13, 15; 17:22 and Philippians 4:4-7.  Special music will be provided by our Choir Chimes.

We will celebrate the sacrament of communion the following Sunday, September 6.  Rev. Cobb will be speaking from Mark 7:24-37.

This week saw the loss of two more dear friends.  A memorial service was held at the church this morning for Barbara Gras, Grace’s daughter.  As people began to gather for the service the church office received word that Lester Hutchinson passed away yesterday afternoon.  We ask that you keep both families in prayer during these difficult days.

Services for Lester will be held at Parsel’s Funeral Home in Absecon.  Friends may call Monday evening from 7-9 and Tuesday morning 10-11 with a service at 11:00.

The church office will be closed for vacation this week and will reopen Tuesday, September 8.  All pastoral needs can be directed to Rev. Gerry Reedell.

Our fall programs are gearing up for a new season!  Two of our women’s circles will be meeting next week.  The bell and chancel choirs will hold their first rehearsals September 10.  Men’s Fellowship will meet Saturday, September 12, and youth groups will begin September 12 & 13.  Our big Rally Day kick off will be Sunday, September 13, starting with breakfast at 8:45.  Check the September issue of the Good News for a full schedule of programs available for all ages!

Fault-Finding

Shakespeare said, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet." Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? I'm sure it would. You see, the truth is that the thing is what it is, not what someone calls it. Names are assigned to us, based on our outward circumstances by ourselves and other people. "Sinner, Failure, Stupid, Dummy, Unclean" all are names which label us. But what we are called, either by others or by ourselves does not determine who we are. It might speak of those external circumstances, but it might be wholly inaccurate. You see, a failure is not someone who fails. In reality, the people who fail the most are the ones who succeed. You only get to success by taking risks and risk-taking brings many failures along the way. A failure is someone who simply doesn't try. No, names do not determine who you are. You are who you are on the inside.

So, the first important lesson is that we must cultivate the inner person.  The inner person is the person who counts. The apostle Paul desired that we be strengthened in the inner man.

It boils down to relationship. We are only as strong as our personal relationship with Christ.

J. David Hoke, The Inside Story, Mark 7:14-23.
